Paddling Eagle Creek Park
Launch locations are at the Walnut Point Rd parking lot, near the Outfitter, and at the Eagle Creek Earth Discovery Center Parking Lot. (At the Walnut Point Rd parking lot, the launch point is shared with kayakers, and it can sometimes be muddy- the Discovery Center Parking Lot launch is a floating dock, and often less busy.) Paddling north takes you toward the bird sanctuary. The bird sanctuary is protected, and you cannot paddle into that section, but as you get close, you'll be able to enjoy all the beauty of the large variety of water birds who make their home here or migrate through. (Yes, there are Eagles at Eagle Creek Park! Bald Eagles live here, you can often see them fishing.) Every Wednesday evening during the summer, there's live music on the beach, and it's fun to be out paddling with music in the background!

Renting or Bringing Your Own Board
You don't need your own board to paddle here. Eagle Creek Outfitters, right by the Walnut Point Rd launch, rents paddle boards alongside kayaks and canoes, and the paddle and safety gear come with every rental (Eagle Creek Outfitters). If you've never stood on a SUP before, that's honestly the smart way to start - try it for an hour, see if you love it, and buy later once you know what you want.
The outfitter runs seasonally, roughly April through October, with the longest hours in June and July. In summer they also host guided sunset paddles on Tuesday evenings, which is a mellow way to see the reservoir if you'd rather not head out solo your first time.
SUP Explorer Tips For Your Visit to Eagle Creek Park, Indiana
- There is a park entry fee - $5 a car for Marion County residents, or $6 for out-of-county visitors. You can always support Eagle Creek with an annual pass - they're $50 for a year!
- Park closes at dusk - 9:30 pm during the summer months, but earlier in spring and fall.
- The lanes for the Indianapolis Rowing Center are located toward the center of the reservoir - take a quick look to see if there is "traffic" before crossing the buoys.
